Fairtrade Textile Standard

Fairtrade Textile Standard (In Progress)

At Martket, responsible and ethical practices guide everything we do. We’re currently working toward certification under the Fairtrade Textile Standard, a respected benchmark for fair wages, safe working conditions, and environmental stewardship across the textile supply chain. While our certification is still in progress, this demonstrates our commitment to making meaningful, positive change.

Why It Matters

Fairtrade Textile certification isn’t just another label, it reflects a genuine, long-term promise to support people and communities. By pursuing this standard, we’re working to ensure our textiles are produced with respect for workers’ rights and the environment, meeting some of the strongest global benchmarks.

Highlights of the Fairtrade Textile Standard

  • Fair and predictable trade relationships: Producers, brands, and manufacturers commit to reliable contracts and fair terms of trade across all stages of production.
  • Living wages within six years: Fairtrade requires implementing a living wage, not just the legal minimum, within six years of certification.
  • Safe, supportive working conditions: The standard mandates occupational health and safety—including building and fire safety, protective gear, and handling of hazardous materials.
  • Environmental responsibility: It includes strict rules for chemical use, bans on substances of very high concern (like carcinogens), and broader environmental safeguards.
  • Transparent, worker-inclusive auditing: Fairtrade strengthens audits by improving auditor competency, increasing worker participation, using unannounced inspections, and ensuring clear follow-through on non-compliances.

What This Means for You

By aligning with the Fairtrade Textile Standard, Martket is taking authentic steps to ensure you receive products made under ethical and sustainable conditions:

  • Greater confidence in worker welfare: We’re working toward ensuring living wages and safe working environments—because fairness matters.
  • Improved environmental responsibility: From reduced harmful chemicals to better safety standards, our processes are designed to protect both people and the planet.
  • Transparent and ethical supply chains: Every stage of our production—from fiber through finishing—is subject to fair practices and oversight.
  • A commitment to continuous improvement: We’re not waiting until certification is complete—this process already signals more equitable and responsible manufacturing.

Our Next Steps

We’re actively advancing through the Fairtrade Textile Standard process and look forward to achieving certification. This milestone will reinforce our efforts to deliver responsibly made textiles with respect for people, communities, and the environment.
